Note:
A prime example of the artist’s ability to translate common objects into symbols. Here the ulu (women’s knife) as well as hood shapes are exaggerated, the traditional hair sticks are elongated to become an integral design element, intertwining with symbolic female figures. The intensity of the colours that she has chosen along with her signature symmetry complete this powerful image.
There are striking compositional and thematic similarities between this drawing and the famous 1974 stonecut and stencil Big Woman (lot 83).
