GEORGE ARLUK (b. 1949)

Additional Images

Provenance:
Private collection, Hamilton, ON
Note:
Heavily influenced by Tiktak and, after his move to Arviat, later John Pangnark and Lucy Tasseor Tutsweetok, George Arluk developed a highly original and distinctive style in the 1970s characterized by a dynamic sense of movement, and forms evocative of dance-like rhythms.
In this uncommon early 1970s work by Arluk we see a surprisingly fully-formed precursor of what would come to be Arluk’s distinctive style.
