Provenance:
Collection of former Northern Affairs Administrator Archibald Frederick Flucke
By descent to the present Private Collection, Salmon Arm, BC
Note:
In the mid-20th century, Inuit carvings made from wood were discouraged by the cooperatives, and Hudson's Bay buyers in favour of stone, making carvings in wood uncommon. Surviving wooden sculptures from the early to mid-20th century are not always readily recognizable as the work of Inuit artists. The present sculpture is notable for its association with an early 20th century Arctic collection.
