Provenance:

Waddington's Auctioneers, Toronto, ON, March 3, 1980, lot 121a;
Private collection, Ontario

Literature:

Jean Blodgett, Kenojuak, (Toronto: Firefly Books, 1985), pl. 14

Note:

Bird in My Mind is a fantastical creature whose mysterious, sometimes x-ray-like anatomy is unlike any animal known on land or in the air. A delightful avian subject by Kenojuak, who rarely fails to exhibit her intuitive mastery of formal composition. The eye is drawn through the image of the bird in a circular motion, the tail curves upwards toward the beak, the beak down to the grasping talons, which gesture upward through to exaggerated plumage of the tail.
