Lot Report

Literature:

Henry C. Campbell, Early Days on the Great Lakes, The Art of William Armstrong, Toronto/Montreal, 1971, pages 114-115, colour spread for an almost identical watercolour.

Note:

Campbell writes: “Kakabeka Falls, on the Kaministiquia River, provides a formidable barrier to transportation. The river in its course to For William meets a barrier of rock over which it tumbles more than 100 feet to the gorge below. The spray at the foot of the Falls does not rise in a large cloud, as at Niagara. It shoots into the air at a sharp angle with great velocity and repeated noise, giving the impression of a series of explosions. From Kakabeka Falls, the Kaministiquia River rushes in torrents to Lake Superior, dropping a height of over a hundred feet in a relatively short distance.”
