William C. Forsey, The Ontario Community Collects: a survey of Canadian painting from 1766 to the present, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, 1975, 72.

Note:

Forsey writes that Dynes was typical of the many journeymen artists who worked in Canada throughout the nineteenth century and concludes that many of his paintings “possess a naive charm which appeals strongly to present day taste.”
