Private Collection, Toronto.

Literature:

Naomi Jackson Groves, A.Y.’s Canada, Toronto/Vancouver, 1968, pages 186-192.

Note:

Jackson’s first trip to the Yukon was in the fall of 1943 and was described by Groves as part of the artist’s personal “war effort”. His trip was sponsored by the National Gallery and he was given hospitality and transportation by the U.S. Army. During Jackson’s three week stay he made sketches of the Alaska Highway and RCAF bases.

On September 9th, 1964, Jackson left Ottawa for his second and last trip to the Yukon along with artist friends Ralph Burton and Maurice Haycock. The theme of the trip was Then and Now during which Jackson celebrated his 82nd birthday with a great party for old and new friends in the Yukon. The trip was documented in the Ocotober 9th, 1964 edition of Time magazine.
