Lot Report

Provenance:

Walter Klinkhoff Gallery, Montreal.
Private Collection, Toronto.

Note:

This subject is a familiar one for Morrice, who passed many times through Dieppe and enjoyed painting around the “Avant-Port.” This scene depicts the western part of Quai Henri IV where the huge steamships from England docked to let passengers board the train for Paris. The little ship, with steam and sails, took tourists out to sea, which is behind the block of buildings which are mostly hotels and restaurants.
