Provenance:

Private Collection, Toronto
Acquired directly from the artist

Note:

Born in New York, Adad Hannah spent his childhood in Israel and England and moved to Vancouver in the early 1980s, where he continues to live and work. He earned his MFA and PhD from Concordia University, Montreal, and he has an expansive exhibition history that spans the globe, including in Russia, Senegal, Mexico, Australia, South Korea, India, and throughout Europe.

When designing public works of art, Hannah welcomes the public into his process. For “The Fold,” he created a playful and interactive sculpture of monumental scale that visitors could sit on, walk through, and otherwise physically explore. The invitation for people to actually touch an artwork is rare, even in public art, making Hannah’s work particularly special.

"The Fold" was commissioned by the City of Calgary Public Art Program. Four maquettes were fabricated; two maquettes are in the possession of the City of Calgary, one remains in private collection and the fourth is offered here.

We thank Emma Landis, Toronto-based art consultant and art historian, for contributing this essay.
