Provenance:

Private collection, Hamilton, ON

Note:

A close friend of Johnny Inukpuk, Elijassiapik was a talented and distinctive sculptor whose lifetime output of carvings appears to have been quite small. [1] It is notable that Darlene Wight could find no more than five of the artist's works documented in public collections at the time of the Winnipeg Gallery of Art’s 2006 publication Early Masters. Yet Wight considered Elijassiapik important enough to include two of his works in this seminal text. One of the sculptures documented—from the collection of Don and Mary Reichert—is closely related to the present example.
