Note:

Although they have been known of for several centuries, black diamonds have become extremely popular only recently thanks to an extensive marketing campaign by their producers. Black diamonds, or carbonado, are not formed in the same manner as clear diamonds, and they tend to be more porous than other types of diamonds. Because of the increased porosity of the stones, black diamonds are graded based on any imperfections marring the surface of the cut stones, and the depth of the jet black colour.
