Note:

Carefully staged and seamlessly edited, Scott McFarland’s photo-based practice calls for a second glance. Trimming, Late Summer, Sarwan Thind (1999) takes as its subject a gardener, who trims back the sprawling rhododendron bushes and ornamental grasses that populate affluent suburban gardens throughout Vancouver. Featured in Roy Arden’s cover story “After Photography,” published in Canadian Art magazine’s Winter 2000 issue, the work reveals “McFarland’s appreciation of class, economics, and technology.”(p.54)
