Note:

Famously mercurial, a Canadian spring will inevitably draw the eye skyward. David Janzen’s March (1995) is persuasive in much the same way as it pulls the viewer’s gaze up and out. Squalls of cold rain and a backing wind are offset by a row of street lamps, receding into the distance in an orderly line. Janzen’s work has been described as a nod toward Romanticism, an inclination that is manifest in his unorthodox landscape paintings. His work engages with the sublime - an aesthetic category that denotes a terrifying beauty - and positions the natural world alongside a human presence in the form of infrastructure or technology.
