Pierre Elliot Trudeau Paper Campaign Dress, 1968
sleeveless A-line dress of printed cellulose fabric
June 27, 2017
Estimate $1,000-$1,500
Realised: $2,880
Trudeau mania swept the country the summer of 1968.
Not since Wilfrid Laurier had Canada seen such a charismatic politician – and dapper dresser. Trudeau’s good looks and charm were unrivaled, and his ideas to unite a divided nation were particularly popular among young voters. With a platform based on unification, justice and equality, Trudeau would go on to win the popular vote.
This dress served as a wearable campaign poster for Trudeau’s bid for leadership of the Liberal Party at the 1968 convention.
