The smooth stone of an even pale celadon colour with slightly russet inclusions and expertly rendered in-the-round as a young laughing boy, his plump face with a jovial expression and opening into a wide smile, the figure dressed in loose clothing tied at the waist and holding a ruyi sceptre
height 3.5" — 9 cm.

Important Chinese Porcelain and Works of Art from an English Gentleman (lots 197-209)
Now residing in Toronto, the owner of this collection dedicated the last 40 years to the full-time study of Asian Arts with a main interest in Chinese ceramics, jades and scholarly objects. The majority of the items were purchased at auction and from private collections.
Reputedly purchased from Marchant & Son during the 1978 International Asian Art Fair in New York.
