萊維斯先生在上海居住期間,與林語堂,梅蘭芳等文人雅客過從甚密,並受到二人讚賞。萊維斯先生所住上海法租界 -- 傑佛里大道(現淮海中路)與馬斯南路(現思南路),亦為梅蘭芳先生故居所在地。對中國音樂的熱愛使得彼此成為至交契友。二人經常往來於彼此住所探討研究中國古典音樂藝術。
