Eduardo Aquino is an artist-architect working across disciplines, practicing in the studio and in urban spaces. After working with architects Oscar Niemeyer and Paulo Mendes da Rocha in Brazil, he has cooperated with artists including Dan Graham, Jeff Wall, Rodney Graham, Jana Sterbak, Tadashi Kawamata, Tony Brown, Eleanor Bond, Anish Kapoor Studio, among others.

Aquino has an active public art practice, having realized projects across Canada in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Quebec City and Montreal. He has completed "ephemeral" siteworks across Europe and the Americas, in locations such as Mexico City, New York, London, Iqaluit, and Atacama, in Chile. Representative projects are "Jiigew (By the Water)", two 70-foot high sister sculptures sited on the piers of Thunder Bay Waterfront, and "Something Happens Here", a Gesamtkunstwerk-like project that occupies all interior surfaces of the Dufferin Subway Station in Toronto.

He has exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, Bauhaus Archives in Berlin, Le Magasin Centre d’art contemporain in Grenoble, Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art, São Paulo Cultural Centre, and the São Paulo International Biennial.

Over the years Aquino has developed several collaborative projects for the Warming Huts Festival in Winnipeg, working with students, educators, and other artists in projects that bring together the hybrid art-architecture. In 2014 he completed a PhD degree at the University of São Paulo researching on beachscapes, a concept that often informs his practice.

More recently he represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale 16th International Architecture Exhibition, in 2018, part of the collective Walls of Air. Aquino is a recipient of a National Award from the National Art Foundation in Brazil, and a National Urban Design Award from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Aquino’s work fluctuates between site-responsive public interventions and an experimental approach to representation, where the collision of different mediums often discloses the ongoing complexities between traditional practices and new modes of technological and digital processes.

Aquino teaches in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba.
