Purchased from an elderly school teacher, who is thought to be related to the family by the present Private Collection, Toronto

Note:

Mary Stanley (1665-1719), was the sister of Sir Thomas Stanley, Earl of Derby, of Knowsley Hall, home of the Earl of Derby, Liverpool

The Stanley Cup, the championship trophy of the National Hockey League, was presented to the Dominion of Canada in 1892 by another Stanley family descendent, Frederick Stanley, the 16th Earl of Derby during his tenure as Governor General of Canada.
