Born in Glasgow and after studying at the Slade, he moved to Australia for five years. He returned to Europe, worked in France in the Barbizon tradition and then after a short stay in Glasgow, he settled in Preston, Lancashire for seven years, then finally he settled in Appeldore, Devon. His oils were very thickly applied in small brushstrokes.
