Provenance:

Private Collection, Toronto

Literature:

Guy Robert, Bellefleur, Iconia, Montreal, 1988, page 106.

Note:

Towards the end of the 1960s Bellefleur became fascinated with esotericism and metempsychosis and Totems à l’éventail  is a reflection of that. Guy Robert writes that for the painter, “the prospect of the transmigration of the soul favoured both the emergence of striking visions, in which silhouettes of 'ancestors' loom up out of their legendary, age-old mists and, perhaps most of all, of an atmosphere imbued with emotions which give the pictorial space a remarkable flavor”.
