This Russian-born painter, printmaker and poet moved from Russia to New York City in 1891. Studying in Paris from 1905-1909, he was inspired by the cubist style of painting and the French appreciation for African or what he called the primitive arts. In 1926, Weber’s second book of poems, Primitives: Poems and Woodcuts, was published in an edition of 350 copies by Spiral Press, New York. Weber illustrated the work with eleven woodcuts and also designed the binding.
