Provenance:
Collection of Steven Blevins & Sonja Morawetz, Ontario
Note:
A particularly refined early 19th or late 18th century ladle closely related to an example published in Steven S. Powers' superlative text North American Burl Treen, Colonial & Native American. The much lauded example documented in Powers is from the collection of Eugene and Clare Thaw, is held by the Fenimore Art Museum, and is currently on loan to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Dr. Theodore Brasser has noted of the Thaw ladle that the hooked protrusion on the back of the handle appears reminiscent of some Seneca pipes.
