The daughter of Genevieve d’Urfe married Count van Dernath, the sitter depicted in this portrait. The van Dernath family lived in a castle in Homonna, North Hungary, now Czechoslovakia for two generations.
Count Imre J.M. Andrassy, was a descendant of the van Dernath’s. The relationship between the Princess Croy and Ct. Andrassy was confirmed by Prince Croy of Authal, Zeltweg, Austria in 1948.
It was through the van Dernath’s that a large collection of Dutch and Flemish masters came to Homonna and through inheritance became the property of the Andrassy family. Through marriage, Homonna eventually became the property of Count Peter Szapary and his only daughter married Count Karl Andrassy, the great grandfather of Count Imre Joseph Maria Andrassy, the last owner of the castle.
