Lot Report

Note:

In 1957 until late 1958, using very limited materials, the members of the Cape Dorset crafts shop created an uncatalogued, experimental collection of roughly twenty prints. In December 1958, thirteen images from this experimental collection were offered for sale at the Hudson Bay Company department store in Winnipeg, MB.

Though the name on the print reads “Kalingo” no one is able to recall the artist and indeed both Kanaginak Pootoogook and James Houston stated that there was no such person who worked at the print shop. Joanassie Salamonie attributes the work to Iyola Kingwatsiak but Iyola does not recall the image.
