Note:
The current lot is a transcription of letters addressed to Claude Le Cheminant, Toronto, Canada, recording the experiences of his brother Cyril, one of Lord Kitchener's 'first 100,000' as written by his father in Guernsey. Dated from Sept. 16, 1914 through to Feb. 10, 1918, they record Cyril's participation in the Battle of the Somme: "Cyril is fighting on the Somme front, we have not heard more from him this week" and his death in 'a raid on the Enemy's Trenches' on August 9, 1917.
