Note:

Benjamin West's highly romanticized depiction of the 'Death of General Wolfe' on the Plains of Abraham is widely considered to be one of the best known images of 18th century art. At least five versions of the painting were created and exhibited to an eager audience who paid and lined up to see them. The General's death had catapulted him to the status of a national hero and he became an icon of England's victory in the Seven Years War, which Churchill opined was the actual first world war, having been fought in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
