White Gloves for Fall!

By: Waddington's Wine & Spirits Department

Putting on Our White Gloves—Again!

In auction terms, a ‘White Glove’ auction means that 100% of all the lots offered are sold.

That’s exactly what happened with our September Fine Wine Auction.

We strive to offer auctions that feature the vintages and cuvées that you are looking for, and we are delighted when our efforts result in every single lot in an auction finding a new home.

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary of offering Fine Wine and Spirits auctions, and Waddington’s celebrates our 175th, we sincerely thank all the consignors and bidders who continue to make these auctions resounding successes.

We look forward to creating more auctions that will quench your thirst.

September 2025 by the numbers

For a little context, we’re pleased to share some of the key statistics from our September 2025 Fine Wine auction.

  • 100% of all lots sold
  • 526 carefully-curated lots
  • 93.57% over market value on average hammer price
  • 78% of all lots sold over their low estimate
  • 42% of all lots sold over their high estimate
  • Set an auction record for the highest price paid for Canadian-produced wines

We’re also continuing to expand our buying audience; 30% of all bidders in this auction were brand new to Waddington’s, creating even more potential to achieve superior results.

A few of the Highlights

what’s next in fine wine

Looking ahead to our November auction, we are delighted to present a selection of large-format treasures—arriving just in time for the holiday season.

Among the highlights are a 100-point 6 litre 2015 Solaia in its original wood case, a commanding 6 litre 2015 Tignanello, and an exceptional 12 litre 2007 Tignanello—each a true centrepiece for the most discerning cellar.

Fine Spirits

Our Fine Spirits auction was equally impressive, with 7.39 bids placed per lot on average, and a 13% increase in bidders versus our June 2025 Fine Spirits auction.

Top sales were equally represented by strong offerings from the big three producing regions of Kentucky, Cognac and Scotland with the nine of the top ten all achieving over their high estimates.

All our auctions are carefully curated focusing on rarity and quality, which is reflected in buyer confidence, particularly for high-end examples like the Ardberg Feis Lie Islay and others sold in our September auction.

Coming Up in Fine spirits

Our November Fine Spirits auction will include an 18 yr Macallan Single Highland Malt all the way from 1976, and a Santiago de Cuba 500 Anniversario in its lacquered pyramid case, blended from aged stocks in the Don Pancho cellar, some distilled as far back as the 1930s, amongst other treasures.
