Note:

Financed by brewery owner and entrepreneur John Molson of Montreal, the C&SL Rail Road was the first of Canada's public railways, providing service between La Prairie on the St Lawrence River and St Johns (St-Jean) on the Richelieu. In effect serving as a portage over the most troublesome part of the journey from Montréal to New York, which was continued by steamer via Lake Champlain and the Hudson River.
