Lot Report

Note:

John Innes is best-known as a painter of life in Western Canada at the turn of the twentieth century and has been called “the Remington of the Canadian West”. Born in London, Ontario and educated in England, as a young man Innes worked as a rancher and horse wrangler in British Columbia while recording the pioneer world around him. By 1897 Innes was back in Ontario but returned to the west again in 1905 where he embarked upon a series entitled “Epic of the western Canada” (published in 1928) a series of thirty paintings illustrating the life of cowboys, Indians, traders and trappers which was subsequently purchased by the Hudson’s Bay Company.
