Provenance:

Ron Kaplansky, Toronto, ON;
Private Collection, Toronto, ON

Literature:

Betty Goodwin: Signs of Life - Signes de vie. Exh. cat. Catalogue by Jessica Bradley. Windsor, ON: Art Gallery of Windsor, 1995: no. 3, p. 60.

Exhibited:

Betty Goodwin: Signs of Life - Signes de vie, Art Gallery of Windsor, Windsor, ON, 28 October 1995-7 January 1996;
National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, ON, 23 February-12 May 1996, no. 3, as La Mémoire du corps XVI.

Note:

With less than 18 by 12 inches of working space, Betty Goodwin could fashion a drawing with gravity and weight well beyond its size. Her light touch with her media, her thoughtful choice of supports, and her pared-down compositions create arresting and potent images. The tub form in La mémoire du corps XVI was a repeating motif in the early 1990s and relates to the form of her major sculpture in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada, Sargasso Sea (1992, no. 37176).
