Note:
A celebrated carver and important figure in Kwakwaka'wakw art, Chief Mungo Martin received tutelage under his stepfather, renowned artist Charlie James.
Martin restored and repaired many carvings and sculptures, totem poles, masks, and various other ceremonial objects. He gained fame for holding the first public potlatch since the governmental potlatch ban of 1885. He was awarded with a medal by the Canadian Council.
Martin worked for the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver for doing restoration work and was commissioned by the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria to create monumental carvings. He is known for mentoring son-in-law Henry Hunt, grandson Tony Hunt and Bill Reid.
